Understanding the impact of removable partial dentures on patients' lives and their attitudes to oral care

Abstract Introduction Due to a rising prevalence of removable partial denture (RPD) use, there is an unmet need explore the psychological impact on patient wellbeing. Aim To assess effects consumers losing teeth and receiving dentures better manage their needs. Design Four market research surveys, undertaken behalf GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, are described. Setting Surveys were conducted across US, Japan, Malaysia, Colombia, Brazil, Poland Italy. Materials methods Quantitative/qualitative used gain knowledge regarding patients' experiences living with dentures. Results In global survey involving 3,952 RPD wearers (RPDWs), 54% said that was difficult accept, 40% concerned about appearance, 32% embarrassed wearing 62% wished more oral care education available when they younger. another >1,000 RPDWs, self-esteem negatively impacted in 51% respondents 57% reported anxiety around dental visits. Conclusions Global confirmed RPDWs can have emotional practical needs not well understood/documented by healthcare professionals (HCPs). enhance understanding HCPs provide suggestions how may address them.
